Abstract
Forsythia viridissima L_(INDL). is a fruit bearing forsythia and its fruits are used as medicine. Uisong Medicinal Plant Experiment Station, Gyongbuk A.T.A. has collected 7 lines of them in Korea since 1993. Among them, 2 lines were selected as highly fruit yielding lines and got through the yield test, regional adaptation test and farmer¢¥s field test. Finally, "Yeonkyo 1", one of the two lines was registered as a excellent new cultivar by commitee of new cultivars, and named as "Yeonjeong". Morphological characteristics of "Yeonjeong" is as follows : Tree shape of "Yeonjeong" is weeping type. It has pinnate compound leaves. Each leaf is lanceolate and has serra. Leaf color is dark green and leaf vein is projected. Its stem becomes reddish by frost in fall. Its long-styled flower blooms facing down. Flowering date is 8th April which is 2¡3days later than common forsythia. In the case of common forsythia which doesn¢¥t bear fruits, tree shape is spreading, leaf color is green and flower is short-styled. At the result of regional yield trial, internodal length of "Yeonjeong" was short as 4. 9§¯. Fruit number per axillary bud was 2.0 and yield was 104§¸/10a which was increased by 46% as compared with EF1. Oleanolic acid content, main component of fruit shell was 0.83%. It is recommendable for any region of country if the land is safe from humid injury. Dense planting may result in over growth, succulent shooting and hindered floral differentiation. Enough daylight and proper training and pruning are demanded.
